Freddy & Ma Handbags
March 19th, 2007
Individual product customization has been around awhile, both online (like Dell computers) and in the real world (such as, I don’t know, sundae toppings.) To a consumer, the process of picking and choosing design features is very satisfying as the final item is, within the range of possibilities, the exact thing he or she wanted in the first place.
So I’m especially impressed with New York-based designers Freddy & Ma, not just for making customizable high-end bags and clutches, but making them actually look good. Give Anthony and Amy Pigliacampo (Freddy and Ma, respectively) credit for realizing that if someone (not me, but someone) is going to spend hundreds of dollars on fashion, the bag ought to be perfect.
Now, I’m not much of a fashion person – my magnetic personality and natural charm usually suffice – but I designed this purse in about five minutes. Only later did I realize it looks like the Tapes n’ Tapes album art. Oh well, I guess I’ll stick to thrift stores.
