The Only Clock You’ll Ever Need
January 26th, 2007
Pete Habuda and I were looking at new office space for our Boulder office last week when we came across this excellent clock in one of the lobbies. An amazing example of how even the simplest design can convey a very powerful statement.
We’d get one for the new place, except the Boulder office usually works 10-6.
[Jeff Goodman reports: This is a M&Co. 5 O’Clock, designed by the husband-and-wife team of Tibor and Maria Kalman, and is available through the MOMA Store online. Though one of the most important graphic designers of 1980s, Tibor may be best known for his work with Talking Heads, including the cover for Remain in Light and The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads. Sadly Tibor Kalman died in 1999.]

well, you could always rotate the clock a bit to fit the 10-6 schedule…

Or you could rotate your room around the clock…

Fantastic statement – everyone I know would like to order one of these. Simplicity at its most powerful.

We’ll be neighbors. =)

lol!
that’s really good clock…
maybe the “5” could be a removable sticker so the bad-bosses can move it a bit to the left so they can steal some minutes from their workers
good finding

You could always buy a simple clock at the local super-mega-has-has-everything shop and make your own face on paper to fit the size….great for kids, lazy employees, or anyone to watches the clock.

Seriously cool clock!

are you kidding no need to rotate for the 10-6 schedule! i just is the “when is it ok to start drinking?”
then again… it’s always 5 o’clock somewhere!
but in all reality fantastic design i really like it

5 o’clock is a state of mind, a metaphoracal end-of-day time… Just set your clock ahead or behind depending on your “real” quitting time to compensate. I simply replaced EVERY number on my clock with a 5!

“An amazing example of how even the simplest design can convey a very powerful statement?” A very powerful statement like what time it is..?

Or, you might just have to go home at 5. Oh well

That’s funny. We used to have a clock at my old office which only indicated 12 and 5 (ie: lunch and quitting time).
Okay, I’ll admit we didn’t have the world’s greatest work ethic…
