Rats! Election Day!

Since the Vestal Blog talked about voting on Halloween, it is only fair to talk about something scary on election day: rats, little vermin in unexpected places. Here’s the story (and slideshow) from our Lima office:

“The morning after a big party, we slowly started to clean up all the mess around the house. I heard a commotion in the bathroom (never a good sign) and when we looked in the toilet there it was: a rat, a small brown rat sitting calmly in the bowl. We quickly shut the lid and debated what to do. Eventually, we decided I should reach in, pick it up, put the rat in a bag, and release it back ‘into the wild’ across the street, which we did. The poor thing was so cramped and cold from sitting in water all night, it had trouble walking. We gave it some stale bread left over from the party and, after a few minutes, it scurried away.”

The chance a rat will find its way up into your toilet is small. But for days afterwards, we all did a thorough investigation before using the water closet.

Also, vote today! If you don’t vote, you have no right to complain when your representative messes up.
