Seeking new relationships “between humans and the things around us,” the Japanese Design Foundation is offering a $10,000 grand prize in their annual competition to anyone “that will help realize human interfaces.” Perhaps their one-word theme is more understandable: ROBOT.

‘ROBOT’ is a loose term, at least for the JDF; an entry can be “any…tool created to solve present-day social challenges.” That’s a little vague, but the three sub-themes (communicate, transport, and support) should help you build a better mousetrap, if not a new cybernetic economy.

And since the president of the Robocup Federation is one of the judges, you just might be able to score some tickets to next year’s match.

Deadline Oct. 22 – No entrance fee.
