Cedar + Plastic = Happy Clothes
October 2nd, 2006
While wandering through the hardware store looking for a caulk gun, I came across this product, a cedar-impregnated plastic chest from Rubbermaid, makers of an incalculable variety of plastic items. Using a patent-pending process, the company mixes real flecks of wood with molten plastic to create a twelve-gallon box that gives off the pleasant aroma of cedar.
Though Rubbermaid seems content to churn out Roughneck storage containers, the process of infusing wood’s sensual characteristics into a malleable material like plastic offers plenty of design options more interesting than the ubiquitous bin.
