What’s the Frequency Kenneth?

iVillage Baby Name Wizard, NameVoyager

I was recently introduced to a couple of rather interesting interfaces. The NameVoyager is a fun little java-based site that dynamically displays census name data from the 1880’s up to present day. While at first glance it may look like a MS Excel mistake, the graphs do a rather good job at displaying a considerable amount of information such as popularity with respect to time, the popular names, and even their ranking with color and mouse-overs.

WordCount is another fun, but less usable interface, that displays the occurrence of words in the English language. And of course, there’s GoogleTrends, where we were reassured to find seasonal and periodic trends in searches such as “bikini” with summer and “Socrates” with the beginning of the school year and vacations. However, an interesting and more surprising trend we spotted was that of “breast enhancement”, where if you’re a plastic surgeon, you just might want to move to Wichita, KS…
What can you find…? Leave us your comments!
Thanks Adam!
