Marching with a Giant Pencil

Last Thursday we at the Lima office participated in a march to promote universal primary education. Several hundred people showed up, and we all marched about 20 blocks, carrying giant cardboard and paper pencils, the symbol of the Permítannos Estudiar (“Allow us to Study”) campaign. Obviously, this was a lot of fun. The march ended up at the Peruvian Congress building, where we met with the aide to a congressperson and generally made a lot of noise.

We’ve posted some photos on Flickr – the photos of our 4-meter long paper and bamboo pencil are great… we hope to build more in the near future. Vestal worked with the directors of Permítannos Estudiar to develop a logo, visual style, and the pencil “symbol”, as well as advised the campaign directors on publicity and fund-raising.
