Digital >>to>> Analog - FlipClip and PicoPad
August 14th, 2006
Now here’s an interesting idea. A company called FlipClip helps you take all those precious little video clips you record on your digital point-and-shoot camera (that you never watch) and share them with your friends, in analog as a flipbook! It’s simple, but a pretty neat idea.

It reminds me of my friend Alan’s product, the PicoPad, a simple pocket notepad that incorporates credit card size post-its with a patented super-tiny pen that is surprisingly usable. What are the environmental considerations? In a digital age of nearly-disposable Blackberries and PDAs that are energy and materials intensive, I’ve decided to keep my life a little more down to earth with a simple pen and a pad of paper.

For the DIY minded- I downloaded Flipbook Printer from Donationcoder. It takes your video clip and prints the frames on standard business sheets. It made awesome christmas cards this year! Here’s the super-geek challenge- make a multi-volume flip book adaptation of your favorite movie.

If you ask me, the FlipClips is just another way of wasting paper! I hope I never get one as a present.
