IE 7: One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

February 8th, 2006

I recently downloaded Beta v2 of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 7 so I could brief the WebDesign team on what we can come to expect in the months ahead. What I found was a package of disappointment. I’m not exactly sure what the IE team has been doing with themselves over the past six years, but it’s obviously not been thinking about making the next killer web browser. IE 7 represents a half-hearted attempt to challenge Firefox’s growing popularity. Although it has that flashy new-car look, once you get in the driver’s seat it’s back to the same stuff- annoying user interfaces and poor implementation. Over the next two weeks, I’ll be posting more details on what I found in IE 7.

Speaking of which – check out what’s at ie7.com. (aside from the most beautiful vector image ever!)

Not to mention all of the endless dialog boxes! The program is painful!

Yes, a vertible cornucopia of dialog boxes one might say. I’ll definitely have a post on that, and the dreadful in-page “alerts”.
