Rude Banking

December 12th, 2005

In the US, we have such little exposure to international design (though we like to think we do). I recently received an email from a German designer, Nikl, working at the design firm Art Lebedev in Moscow. He sent me a link to a pretty interesting project for the Soyuznick Bank (aka Union Bank). He says the chairman of the bank is actually English and wanted to incorporate a young and light-hearted tone to banking, we might even speculate that it has a little Monty Python influence.

Edgy design, DIY bankcards and swearing ATMs make for a completely unique and certainly differentiated banking experience. I wonder if it’s going to work in attracting new customers… Reminds me a little of the Daily Show bit on ‘extreme heath insurance’.

Great Job… and nice work on the Optimus Keyboard too!

That’s amazing—it takes a really adventurous client to agree to something like that!
