Hi Tech Hide and Seek

December 1st, 2005

I’ve recently learned about the sport of geocaching. People hide small caches, or treasures, and others use their GPS systems to locate the boxes and see what’s inside. Often there is a log recording who has previously found the cache. Any number of variations to the game have sprung up, including puzzles that must be solved to get your coordinates, or specific themes that go with the cache. The website lists caches by location, so you can see what’s nearby in your area.

Makes me wish I had a GPS!

I have a friend who belongs to a motorcycle club in CT and apparently every year one of the members whips up cryptic GPS directions for everyone.

The whole trip will take them all day (and through all sorts of back-roads you didn’t know you could drive on), and they’ll end up at some meeting point, have dinner, and booze ‘til the last guy comes in. Awesome.

Great to see another potential geocacher that also blogs. Our blog is Jestcaching.
