Interra vs. Xterra
November 13th, 2005Greg Steltenpohl (founder Odwalla) and Dee Hock (founder Visa) are starting “The Interra Project”, a variation on frequent-flyer/ point-based credit and debit cards, where participants can enroll existing cards or get an Interra card to earn rewards for purchasing from locally owned and sustainable businesses .
The project seeks to “empower citizen consumers to wield a tool they use everyday – credit and debit cards – to influence how things are made and disposed of, how money circulates within their communities, and how businesses, in general, behave.”
In contrast, the Nissan Xterra is a beastly SUV. Yet, there are still over 100 SUV models on the market that score worse gas mileage according to FuelEconomy.gov (for some reason the Hummer H2 and H1 aren’t on the list…curious.)

hopefully this will work not only to “empower citizen consumers to influence how businesses behave” but to further inform them of sustainable businesses as well.
Can’t actively reward a good business (i.e. buy their products/services) if you don’t know of them.
