Art in an age of mechanical reproduction

An artists’ collective known as Gelitin has just wrapped up a six-day exhibition in Chelsea. Six of them lived for the entire show in a giant wooden box, and items put in one end were duplicated crudely by the artists within. The original and the duplicate were taken out of a small door at the other end. No communication (besides the objects themselves) occurred with the box’s inhabitants.
