The Basel Action Network just recently published a report entitled, The Digital Dump: Exporting Re-Use and Abuse to Africa. The report goes over electronic waste and its oft mismanagement when e-waste is exported in the name of donating electronics to help bridge the ‘digital divide.’

Jim Puckett, who led the field investigation and coordinator of the Basel Action Network comments:

“Re-use is a good thing, bridging the digital divide is a good thing, but exporting loads of technotrash in the name of these lofty ideals and seriously damaging the environment and health of poor communities in developing countries is criminal.”
