NASA’s Faux Fur: Redefining the Rules of Food

September 24th, 2005

NASA recently determined it could produce small amounts of edible meat in a lab, sans animal, in their attempts to reduce storage in long-term space travel. The implications of how this new process would change the eating practices of millions are innumerable.

Would this new meat be kosher? Eaten by vegetarians? Completely monitered to be free of stereoids and disease? Used to make even more specialized filet mignon’s for the world’s best restaurants? Or open the flood gates to more dangers brought by the genetically modified food banned in so many countries?

For now, all these questions will have to wait for modern science.
