1500 Ladybugs = $7.99

September 12th, 2005

Gardeners may be pretty familiar with this, but I found it fascinating that not only can ladybugs be purchased in bulk, but they can be stored in the refrigerator for a few months to be used when needed. Why? They’re a natural predator of aphids and other insect pests, dummy! This site sells 1500 ladybugs for $7.99 or 72,000 for $91.65. At those prices I might just buy some for fun. Ladybugs may be too cheap. At Stanford’s graduation ceremony a group of seniors pitched in to get about a quarter of a million lady bugs delivered. The group released all of them during the graduation ceremony and the bugs decided just to crawl all over their purchasers. These people were entirely covered in lady bugs. I think that was quite an original costume for Stanford’s “Wacky Walkers.”

i got some at a nursery a couple years ago and the neighbor kids had a blast making obstacle courses out of the scrap lumber pile for them ….the monsoon storms were too much for them and after a couple torrential rains they all washed away…...snif….wiping a tear…..
