Palo Alto and the surrounding Silicon Valley area is teeming with technology and innovation. But it’s also home to 29 EPA Superfund Sites as a result of the materials used in high tech R&D and Manufacturing. At the other end of the product life cycle is disposal.

I recently visited Green Citizen , a local electronics waste recycling firm who’s aim is to raise awareness about electronic waste issues and provide ethical recycling at the consumer level. In California, TVs, LCDs, Plasma screens, CRTs, and laptops can all be recycled for free, diverting heavy metals and other toxics out of the waste stream.
