Your tax dollars at work: the US Army has put together an incredibly thorough and still accessible machine shop manual. It begins with an “introduction to the machine shop” and covers everything from mills and lathes to common measurements and formulas.

While many of us were fortunate enough to get a formal education in this stuff, having it online is a great resource for those who weren’t (and those who have, um, gotten fuzzy on the details since they do web design now…).
