Japan: Design for Disassembly

Designing for Disassembly is essential to dealing with the solid waste stream. In the realm of consumer electronics, the contents of a device often have valuable as well as toxic materials unfit for a landfill.

SHARP, in collaboration with Tokai University and other Japanese corporations have developed a mechanism called “Easy Release Fasteners.” Technology may be coming of age… It’s about time we begin using the same methodologies to deal with all the junk we’ve created.
