Google Earth

June 28th, 2005

Google this morning released Google Earth, the result of their purchase of Keyhole software late last year. It allows flyovers of the whole earth, as well as 3D buildings in 38 US cities. And it’s free. Above is the Vatican.

One of the most amazing things is the ability to tilt the groundplane and see terrain features.

p.s. i also wonder if this will improve America’s ability to connect with the global community.

Somehow, if you don’t ever see a place, it doesn’t really exist, right? So now we have a tool that really does let us go wherever we choose to go. Wonder what we’ll do with it…

The Google Earth stuff is very cool, save for the fact that there’s no option for Mac users.

    It’s a major buzzkill.
