Craig’s List meets Deep Space 9: why not!

March 13th, 2005

CRAIG’S LIST + =

So, while trying to find myself a job on Craig’s List, a mostly free (only charges for job ads), effective and informal classifieds list, I came across a new feature. Apparently, for $1,225, Craig’s List won an eBay auction that will allow them to beam craglist ads into space (10,000, to be exact) on May 15th, 2005.

The company who will assist them, Deep Space Communication Network (DSCN), uses satelitte dishes to send almost any message into “deep space” ($99 per 5-min for the general public). Craig’s List, however, is making this free to anyone in the world who wants to send anything, making it a further example of how the internet has provided a forum for sharing and the exchange of thoughts which continues to bring the world forward (and is just plain fun! :) .
