“the things in my house”: spotlight on Alessi

February 21st, 2005

So in addition to the ridiculous furniture I have in my house (the details of which I will go into in a later blog), I decided to check out a store I know my mom loves going to (and to which I took mike one year for his birthday) : Alessi, this sweet-ass Italian design store.

This place, which carries mostly kitchen-ware, carries products from sleek, fancy metal Bauhaus-styled teapots (for which they are probably most famous) to fun little gadgets like the salt and pepper shaker set which spins on magnetic feet around a metal pole (see above). We also have the fun squirrel nutcracker and the magic bunny toothpick holder. While they may not look all that interesting in the pictures, I swear people play with them incessantly, something I invite all of you to do at my place over fondue sometime. ;)

Besides they’re cute, and we all know that’s the true trump card in the world of public design.
