So everyone once in a while I get moments of enlightenment.

This is one of them: cell phones should have an extra feature to their schedule / reminders options: a “turn to silent”. rather than only offer blaring noise when you actually want it, you should be able to enter you work / school schedule into the phone so you will never again have to be “that guy” who’s phone interupts the prof in the middle of lecture.
